Martha Salley Thompson of Kingsport,age 96, passed away on November 29, 2012 at Holston Manor in Kingsport, Tennessee after a long battle with Alzheimers. She was born April 15, 1916 to the late Robert and Phoebe Caudill Salley in Arno, Virginia.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Martha was a wonderful homemaker, enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader. She was a member of the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church in Gray, Tennessee and loved attending Mrs. Lasley’s Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Thompson; son, Gerald Thompson; great grandson, Joshua Thompson; great granddaughter, Megan Thompson; and nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby Thompson and wife, Mildred of Johnson City, Tennessee, Tommy Thompson and wife Emma of Kingsport, Tennessee; one daughter, Judy Vicars and husband Willis of Kingsport, Tennessee; daughter-in-law, Shirley Thompson, of Derby, Virginia; three grandsons, Gerald Thompson Jr. and wife, Tammy of Kingsport, Tennessee, Mitchell Thompson and wife Tabitha of Nashville, Tennessee and Adam Vicars and wife Sarah of Greenville, South Carolina; one great grandson, Brandon Thompson; one great granddaughter, Ashlee Thompson; twin great grandsons, Van Vicars and Elijah Vicars; and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Martha Thompson will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Tri-Cities Funeral Home with Funeral services to follow in our chapel at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Gene Lasley officiating. Burial will follow in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers. Memorial contributions amy be made to the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church, 197 Suncrest Drive Gray, Tennessee 37615.
