Chester Leon Smith, 84, of Blountville, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord Monday, October 7, 2013, with his loving family by his side. He worked at the Bristol Herald Courier for 42 years. He was a member of the Blountville Presbyterian Church and served his Country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He had a passion for playing golf, and he adored his grandchildren.
Chester is preceded in death by his parents, L.V. and Hettie Patrick Smith, brothers, Harold Smith and Claude Smith, and a sister, Gaynell Hodge.
Chester is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy Oliver Smith; daughter, Paula Moody and husband Tim, of Blountville, Tennessee; son, David Smith and wife Julie, of Bristol, Tennessee; grandchildren, Kristi Moody, Whitney Moody, Cameron Smith, and Karah Smith; great granddaughter, Ryleigh Haywood; sister, Janie Cullop, of Johnson City, Tennessee; brothers, Grady Smith and wife Sue, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, Frank Smith and wife Lawana, of Bristol, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Chester Leon Smith will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at Blountville Presbyterian Church, with funeral services to follow at 8:00 P.M., with Rev. Ike Brighton officiating.
Military Graveside rites will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with Dr. Stan Anderson officiating, and finished by American Legion Hammond Post #3, and Gate City Post #265 officiating. Pallbearers will be Charles Mays, Hunter Walling, Herman Harr, Bob Sanders, Bob O’Dell, Carl Grubbs.
